点评：Our hotel was on the banks of The Caledonian Canal, Scotland's longest inland waterway. Running from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east and follows the course of the Great Glen a long narrow valley.
Starting on the shores of Loch Linnhe in the west, joining Lochs Oich, Lochy and Ness, and ending on the east coast at Beauly Firth. Prior to the canal ships had to navigate the the hazardous Pentland Firth, a strait between the Orkney Islands and Caithness. The Pentland Firth being the main route for ships wanting to get from the east to the west coast of Scotland.
The canal was designed to replace this treacherous water way. Construction started on the almost 60 miles of canal in 1804. When it was finished in 1822 the scheme was 12 years over schedule.
We walked along the canal from Loch Linnhe to Loch Lochy including the famous eight locks of Neptune's Staircase.
Lots of stunning scenery of the lochs, abundant bird life and a deer grazing in a meadow. So peaceful and tranquil early in the morning.
We were later on our tour to travel by boat on the canal near Inverness which made the visit on the canal so special.
