点评:I enjoyed my visit here. I’d heard about it from several people but didn’t quite grasp what Bell Works is until I went. I was impressed. Anyone traveling through the Holmdel area should stop in here.
What is Bell Works? It’s the former Bell Labs, to start, a historic spot in its own right.
It isn’t a mall, not in the traditional sense, yet it resembles one in some ways. You park and enter a huge space (the building itself is an amazing example of the International Style). There are shops and eateries as well as a food court. All of the food options are elevated. None of the usual mall selections.
There are also a ton of tables to sit and study or get work done. There’s a basketball court, as well, and ping pong tables. There’s also a farmer’s market one day a week (perhaps only in the summer. I would check before visiting). Why aren’t traditional malls doing this?
On the upper floors are non-retail office spaces. It must be a pleasant place to work for a lot of people. Having it open the public is the real stroke of genius though, making it a destination. I wandered about, admired the fountains, sat and got some work done on my laptop, and had a fine lunch. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
