We spent 3 fantastic weeks in Ethiopia. Booked through Arto Tour with Solayke and our driver Tedi. We booked the trip via WhatsApp. I was a little unsure at first as we didn't know the contact. We were picked up by the two of them at the airport in Addis and we knew straight away that they would be a perfect match for us. The Addis market is very worthwhile and a good place to start. From there we travelled to Arbaminch, other places were Adana, Jinka, Turmi, the Omo Valley, Awash Valley, Harar, Semera, the Afrera Salt Lake, Dallol Crater, Erta Ale etc.
We visited among others the tribes of Dorze, Konso, Hamar, Banna, Mursi, Ari, Kara, Afar. The different tribes couldn't be more different. It was so interesting. We always had an additional guide who knew the people, their customs and traditions. Taking photos was never a problem. We were allowed to take part in an incredible ceremony with the Hamar and stay for dinner. On the way I visited various very beautiful and colourful markets, drove past coffee plantations and local communities, shepherds with their cattle, market women and farmers tilling their land. We visited Lake Shalla, Mago NP. and Maze Park. On a boat tour we saw many crocodiles. The whole route (over 5000km) was so varied, colourful and deeply impressive. Everything was perfectly and smoothly organised. The accommodation was good to very comfortable. Solayke puts his whole heart into his work and you could feel that he loves his country and is closely connected with the various tribes and his fellow countrymen. His knowledge of his homeland was very valuable to us. It was very important to him that we felt comfortable. And let's not forget the many wonderful moments during the coffee breaks on the way, where we got in touch with the local inhabitants and were able to have some nice conversations. For me, these stops along the road with the good coffee were always a pleasure. Tedi our driver was simply brilliant, very safe, calm, careful and also made sure that we felt comfortable on our sometimes long journeys. We can recommend this trip to older travellers without hesitation. We are both over 60 and I was even brought a chair at a barbecue at the Hamar so that I didn't have to sit on the floor by the fire.
This great diversity, the impressive nature, the changing landscapes, the lovely people and the professional support, organisation and company of Solayke and Tedi made our trip to Ethiopia an absolute highlight. We will certainly visit Ethiopia again.
