Egidio became our translator, cultural guide, and the key that unlocked a deeply personal and unforgettable experience.
Without his help, we would never have connected with so many locals while tracing our family roots. He helped us communicate with people who provided critical clues, was the catalyst in getting the municipal building staff to engage with us, persauded someone to unlock the gates of an old cemetery, and even convinced the grounds crew of a closed restaurant high in the hills of Montecalvo Irpino to help us find the owner.
That owner turned out to be my cousin.
