A swell little nature center in Saint Joseph
Remington Nature Center的点评
点评：My siblings and I were visiting Saint Joseph and looking for outdoor activities to do with our dogs. We chose the Remington Nature Center as our trailhead to stroll along the Saint Joseph Riverwalk, and it was a lovely outing!
The Riverwalk winds along the east bank of the Missouri River, and as we walked we were treated to beautiful views of the river, shaded by huge trees in full leaf, and serenaded by dozens of songbirds in the foliage along the trail. The city has done a great job of beautification of the area, and the place is idyllic.
After our walk, we wanted to visit the Nature Center; since dogs aren’t allowed, my sister stayed with our pets while my brother and I took a quick tour.
It’s a delightful little center, and eclectic in its offerings. It has a large freshwater aquarium, several small aquariums with exotic and local fauna, stuffed specimens of larger mammals (such as black bear, bison, and deer), one interactive area with the life cycle of water and another with sounds of the forest and prairie along with information about what animal makes them. There’s even a cool exhibit that shows the paw prints of different animals one might encounter in the region. Finally, there’s a larger exhibit that occupies several rooms and traces the history of the St Joseph area from the earliest human inhabitants through the 20th century. It was fascinating to look at all the displays and see the history of the region unfold!
The center is very user-friendly and welcomes children and groups. One of the events going on when we were there was a scavenger hunt for rubber ducks that had been stashed in strategic places throughout the center. It was great fun to see the kids searching so hard for each duck! It certainly seemed to help them focus on all the exhibits and displays.
We appreciate the work of Remington Nature Center and look forward to visiting again in the future.
