点评:We did not take a tour but review requires one which is daft!! Many people walk it not with a guide but alone.
My husband and I are in our mid and late 60's and usually fit, and walk a great deal- but I had an injured knee (torn medial meniscus) that I had done when running a charity race, so I had to be careful.
We decided to walk down and see how my knee was and then decide what to do about return and maybe pay for jeep.
I suggest that you start as early as you can. We tried- but Hotel Gorropu where we stayed the night before were slow at breakfast and checkout, so we only got going at just after 9am. I recommend that if you are elderly or unsure about fitness, that you take walking sticks. I used mine a lot on way down to relieve the pain in my knee. Some stretches are steep stone steps.
The views are wonderful and heat not too bad in October. Take plenty of water- we did and were pleased we had.
We got to base and had to pay and then had to wait for talk by a ranger. She was good and clear and spoke in English. We wanted to walk along Canyon base to steepest walls. It is in 3 sections - the first is easiest boulder clambering. The second is harder and we went into first part of that to get to deepest part of Canyon. Third part you need climbing equipment and permission. I had to leave my walking sticks in a hut as needed my hands to boulder. I was worried they would be stolen but they were not.
I decided my knee would be ok going back up, as easier than walking down. Walk up is steep in parts so glad not a hot July day! Keep drinking!
Walk back up interesting as many people going down- we wondered if they would make the time, as not allowed into Gorge after a certain time.
We stopped for our lunch at the refuge hut as in photos- interesting place.
Very glad we went up and down- enjoy if you are a walker!
