Well worth the trip. This was the highlight of our trip to NM.

点评：This museum is a MUST SEE for anyone interested in entrepreneurship, history, women's herstory, railroads, or the west in general. Fred Harvey saw opportunity along the rail line and seized it, developing a chain of restaurants with good food and friendly service. The curation is as wonderful as the docents, who are excited to share their knowledge.
The Harvey Girls were young, unmarried women who brought a degree of refinement and respectability to the West. They were expected to adhere to strict rules of conduct and were closely monitored by their supervisors. This helped to create a more structured and disciplined environment in some Western communities.
The efficiency the workers and the Harvey family evolved was magnificent. The photos and carpet markings show exactly how this place looked 100 years ago. The Harvey sons employed Mary Colter, a female architect, to design many of their buildings, many of which are still standing. I am reminded of the great Julia Morgan. We ate lunch in La Fonda in Taos without knowing it had been another Harvey House.
The food was delicious and the service was warmly hospitable in the café. It was my hubby's birthday and everyone wished him a happy one.
Make a donation, please! Come on, at least donate $20 each to support and preserve this exquisite remnant of a time gone by.
And play Johnny Mercer's ditty, "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" as the train goes by.
