The Farmhouse was lovely (for the most part)

点评：We were very pleased by the beauty of the castle & courtyard. Wisteria in bloom, table & chairs outside our door— we immediately made a plate of fruits & cheeses, opened wine, & sat outside. The farmhouse was clean. Excellent library. Towels & sheets smelled terrific, bed linens crisp & luxurious.
Johnny gave us a brief check-in. As a consequence, we never got a tour of the castle because we were not told how to go about it, so it wasn't on our minds. We asked Johnny for chairs for our private second-floor terrace so we could use it and he said yes, but we never got them. And many listed amenities were missing, most importantly a paid washer & dryer. Also missing: refrigerator & freezer (mini fridge only), dining chairs, portable fans, closet, & private backyard.
One of the bathrooms didn't have a wastebasket. Neither bedroom had a wastebasket. Hooks for towels next to the shower would be very helpful. Be aware that there are a few little glass shelves above the sink, but there's really no place to put your all of your toiletries and makeup. And there is no mirror in the bedroom at all, so when someone puts on their makeup, they will have to do it over the sink. In Ireland, there are no power outlets in bathrooms, so when you blow-dry your hair in the bedroom, you also have to do that without a mirror. If you're more like camper than someone who wants to stay at nice accommodations, none of that will bother you.
Other guests sat outside our living & dining windows at night. No blinds to close. No privacy. Awful. TV didn’t work.
But here's the kicker. We were locked out before midnight on our last night. Gerry wasn't on the property and couldn't rouse the maid who was on the property and who could have let us in through another door. Gerry used several delay tactics, and he said we didn’t know how to use Irish locks. At one point he asked me if I'd ever used the key. Later, he asked me if I even had the key. Gerry kept saying he was coming to help us, but it took him many, many times of saying that before he actually came. He finally arrived over an hour later.
We were sitting outside all that time, our phone batteries draining, and dew was settling on us, which is not okay. And though we knew what was wrong (vertical deadbolt had slipped), he didn’t believe us. That's exactly what was wrong. But before Gerry figured out that what we said was exactly right, he was struggling to open the door that was deadbolted. He offered us different bedrooms to sleep in. Ridiculous. We are four middle-aged adults (one actually and octogenarian), and we needed our medicines and we needed our pajamas and toothbrushes and our phone chargers-- not another room.
In the end, Gerry and the maid had to let us in through the other door, just as we said they would have to.
We got to bed at 2 am. Gerry did give us an adjustment on the bill, which I had to follow up on several times, but that in no way makes up for what we went through, especially because like on the night we needed help, I had to dog him and then I had to dog him to get the refund he promised.
