Big disappointment. Great gap between the marketing text and the reality

点评：The problem I have is the way my tour operator, African Safari, promoted this event. I quote their website:
“The swamp walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary at Kibale National Park is a must-do if you love birds, monkeys, rare animals, plants and flowers. This magical place, also called “home of the great blue turaco”, is the home of over 200 bird species. During your walk, you can spot eight primate species in the trees above you, as well as other Ugandan animals such as sitatungas, bushbucks and otters (yes, otters!). Lose yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of this pristine wetland; this is a true gem which only waits to be discovered… by you!”
Well, 80 % of the time is spent on watching:
- banana drinks production;
- coffee branding;
- basket weaving:
- dances.
I don't mind these activities giving you the option to see the local people, the way they live, etc. but I believe it should be mentioned in the description of the event.
Coming to the board walk itself. Well, there is no boardwalk. Just beams and planks here and there in the mud. The walk itself took about 15 minutes. Wildlife? Hardly seen anything. Otters were not there, The great blue turaco? Not there. 200 species of birds? May be we saw 3-5 birds. Primates? We saw one specie. Nothing came even close to the advertisement.
I made the booking for the opportunity to see wild life. It could be the season but believe the area is way too small to house all the wildlife as advertised. Or the area is big enough but the ("board") walk is way too short to have a chance to see the promoted animals and plants.
My advice: be open about what it really is. Then it is up to you whether you go for it or not. Now you're left with the feeling of being cheated.
