点评：Notwithstanding having read a poor review ( a bit "camp") we found ourselves in the Cathedral Close and thought "why not?". It was three hours well spent. Entry is via little shop created from a garage, thence into the front garden with its sweeping gravel drive and up into the front hall, door opened as you approach it. The first room is a gallery displaying builders models of four of his five Morning Cloud sailing yachts together with information concerning his successes at sea, Other rooms contain his piano and other instruments, his dining room and of the rooms he used just his stuff & library remain; the others are exhibition spaces, one devoted to his military service following D Day. His extensive collection of 20thC and Japanese art is well displayed.
The garden is beautiful, stretching down to the Avon.
The curators and custodians know a lot, but at the end of the tour one wonders just how much more one has learned about him from visiting. There isn't a lot go him there. It was his only home, all previous residences came with the job(s). Despite enjoying entertaining ( and the list of guests is remarkable) he seems to have been a very private man.
But it's a beautiful house full of beautiful art in a lovely garden in a unique setting and more than worth the £10 entry.
