Old Golutvin Monastery: quiet retreat off beaten path

点评：I love historic places not many people know about! It’s quiet and peaceful, even if you come on weekend or holiday.
Note: if you go by car, your own or a taxi, you can stand for half an hour at the railway crossing. By bus or tram - three stops from the station.
The territory is very well-attended - gardens in blossom, paths clean swept, walls and towers restored. Not everything is ready yet, but it will probably be soon.
It seems they even keep an apiary!
There are two churches:
The Cathedral of the Epiphany (the main one, white) - they say it was founded by Sergius of Radonezh as early as in 1374.
The other, yellow, is St. Sergius church named after him, is about 100 years younger.
Note St. Sergius statue, too.
The church on the other side of the wall is belongs to the seminary, as far as I know, visitors are not allowed there.
The oldest part is the basement of the Epiphany Cathedral, there are arches from about 1800, as the local guide told me.
Another useful thing for travellers is the church shop and the refectory with a very decent toilet. Open until 5pm only!
Last but not least, there is the New Golutvin, but that’s a nunnery. And it’s on the territory of the Kolomna kremlin, about half an hour by bus from here. Don’t get it mixed up!
