点评:I have followed Takis on Facebook for some time so took the opportunity to visit the shelter when we holidayed here on Crete. I booked a visit online and then hired a car to drive to meet the German volunteer at the meeting site (Lidl). This is due to the site being quite isolated - for good reason! The shelter is very big and Takis has 550 animals mostly in open enclosures on the hillside. It is very noisy!! The dogs and cats are tended to by a few staff and volunteers. Being Greece the shelter does not operate to the same standards as a UK shelter but there is no doubt that Takis has good intentions and loves the animals. It does appear to be quite difficult to adopt a dog as unlike most foreign rescues, you have to go and fetch them making arrangements yourself. This is probably the reason that they have so many animals in the shelter. I noted that a few of the dogs with longer coats required some grooming as they had very matted coats. I’m sure a volunteer could offer help here. Also some of the dogs were nervous and I doubted that any rehabilitation took place limiting the dog’s opportunity to be rehomed. I feel that there should be an active adoption programme as ultimately there is a limit as to how many animals can be kept to a good standard at the shelter. Having said this, Takis is making positive roads to improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Greece and attempting to educate locals to reduce animal cruelty.
It is worth following Takis on Facebook, donating to help him pay for food and visit the shelter if you are visiting on holiday.

如果您在假期来访,不妨在 Facebook 上关注 Takis,捐款帮助他支付食物费用,并参观收容所。
