点评:Having read other reviews before we visited this place I have chosen to include a review to “balance the perspective” a little.
My wife and I paid a visit to this community conservation project with a little trepidation because of other reviews.
However, our experience was one whereby nature was given the respect of those organising the “turtle watch” and they did so in a way which didn’t cause distress to the turtle mum we saw laying her eggs that night. We also saw babies making their way to the ocean (unusual for November apparently)
These guys are responsible for a 4km stretch of beach which is designated protected and closed to the public 7pm to 7am and are protecting these endangered animals with the money they raise from visitors (LKR 2,000 per head) plus donations received so should be supported.
We were only asked to walk 500 metres but depending on the activity you might need to walk up to 4kms to see anything.
The “rules of attendance” are clearly explained to people in advance and throughout but if our experience is anything to go by there is always some idiot who chooses not to obey the rules or lets their children run around uncontrolled despite being pulled up about it repeatedly.
Overall a magical opportunity to see and help an endangered species survive providing you follow the guidelines given.
