The original, unveiled in 1914, sits in the Victor Hugo Garden, part or the Candie Gardrns adjacent to the Guernsey Museum.
The other is much newer and sits Harbourside near the Town Church. The newer statue has Victor sitting on a bench, his arm stretched along the back of the bench, inviting visitors to sit beside him.
The original statue is far more imposing and formal.
Created in France in 1913 by Jean Boucher for the Societe Victor Hugo and funded by the French government, it was shipped to & unveiled in its current, and intended site on July 7, 1914.
Like the more contemporary sculpture, it has Victor seated and looking out over the waters towards Herm, Sark & his beloved France.
