点评:We were on a 10-day Princess cruise out of Southampton around Great Britain, and this was our first stop. Not being keenly aware of my European geography and not knowing exactly where the Channel Islands were located, I was somewhat surprised to learn that we were only thirty miles west of Normandy, France. I also learned several interesting historical facts and opinions about the harbor: (1) In ancient times it was a port used by the Romans, (2) In WWII, it was controlled by the Germans and bombed by the British, (3) It is currently referred to as the "largest tender port for cruise ships in Europe," and (4) It is considered one of the most beautiful and picturesque seaports in Europe. Having tendered at quite a few ports in the Baltic and Mediterranean, I find those last two interesting. I'm not sure if it means largest port in size or that the most cruise ships stop here. And—although it is a nice scenic harbor with a lot of yachts and sailboats, and the waterfront has a lot of cafes and shops — having cruised to Venice, Kotor, Monte-Carlo, Valletta, Gibraltar, Portofino, and Stockholm, I'm not sure that St Peters Port is one of the most picturesque ports in Europe as advertised.
