Good parkland garden spoiled by the cafe

The gardens are a typical parkland garden designed by Capability Brown with 3 large lakes, some impressive tree specimens including several "Champions" which are the oldest/ largest of their species in the UK. The new future garden area looks as though it will be interesting & had beautiful seating, though why parents let children run on areas where they are expressly asked not to because of newly sown beds is beyond me. Paths are generally hard surfaced, those likely to be muddy or uneven are clearly marked. If you're after flower borders there are better places to visit in Sussex. Nymans, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Borde Hill, Wakehurst
However, our visit was really marred by the cafe, which had very little selection even at 1pm lunchtime. When we returned at 2.30 for a cream tea or cake, there were non available. I know there are ongoing cafe renovations, but with the excellent forecast, I can't believe they ran out of food so early on a Sunday. The till staff were not very helpful & rather surly. You can bring a picnic & I would recommend that in fine weather.
