点评:My friend and I from Australia spent six days with Vic and Diane in November 2024, in what I would describe as a moving, emotional and at the same time peaceful and calm.
I have been to the Western Front twice before with a group of fellow WW1 enthusiasts, but this very personalised tours was very different and exceptional.
From the time I contacted Diane and Vic almost 10 months from when we wanted to travel, to the day before pick up, I felt confident in our communication. Nothing was too much of a hassle.
Although I had been before, my friend had not. Between us we memorialised 25 men who paid the Supreme Sacrifice from our families and districts.
We provided Vic and Diane with the names of the men and the places on our ‘must see’ list and let them develop an itinerary for us. Five and a half days of personalised touring and guidance. Cemeteries, battlefields, museums, memorials. We covered them all and more.
Both Vic and Diane have an incredible knowledge of all Battlefields - and the importance of their place in the Australian psyche. Their ability to place their guests in the midst of a battle and understand what was happening at the time is incredible. They are able to provide the personal stories that allow us to understand the men and women who lived and died and what was occurring for them. They have a deep knowledge , but they care deeply about the legacy of both those who survived, but those who never returned home.
We loved being in a car from 9-5pm with Vic and Diane on different days. Their company was amazing, aside from their knowledge, they could not have been more warm and welcoming.
We stayed at their BNB attached to their home - beautifully appointed and comfortable, and it made it so easy to step into breakfast and then be ready for a day’s touring.
We were able to either head out to a local restaurant at days end, and we were really happy to take recommendations - even the hilarious night at the restaurant where we could not speak French - it’s all part of the experience. Vic and Diane would take us and come and collect us at agreed times. So easy. On other nights we stayed in and had a light meal in our room ( self prepared). They ran us to the railway station to catch the train on several days as we wandered around. It was all just so easy.
We loved it. Great value for money. You will not find better in my opinion. Extremely professionally conducted. Incredibly knowledgeable and in-depth and very personal.
My fellow traveller was equally thrilled to have found guides whose knowledge, care and compassion is evident in everything they do.
They plan, they consult and they deliver.
We will go again and have encouraged and recommended people.
I am hoping to go back soon. We found fellow lovers of history, and good conversation with Vic and Diane
Thanks to Vic, Diane and all their beautiful cats that they love and rescue.
