点评:Have been meaning to do the trail for years and decided a day trip out and back from Lowood to Esk was a decent toe in the water.
This proved correct and was based on a feeling that Wulkuraka to Lowood was possibly the least interesting section and the more scenic top end to Kilkivan to Linville leg, too far away for a day outing from Brisbane.
I was riding for 3 hours 20 minutes with stops for water along the way and a perfect lunch at Nash Gallery with parrots at the turnaround point in Esk.
Everybody says rail trails have few gradients which does not mean no gradients! Because uphill stretches extend to kilometres, you notice them in the legs, but compared to riding around the Brisbane suburbs they are trivial.
The climb to Mt Hallan from both directions certainly slowed me down but the next few k's down the other side were fast and easy.
Lack of any information boards along the way detracted somewhat but Strava told me where I was.
An average of 20kph is flagged by many and I found this to be true though I passed a few groups going much slower. Equally, there were keener athletes flying along at 50% more.
