An extremely positive experience, and some thoughts on the Ebola scare

点评：We are UK residents who visited the beautiful country of Uganda for a week long safari adventure in July 2026. I must say that the experience with Nkuringo Safaris was exceptional in every way.
To start, we were genuinely moved by the hospitality of all Ugandans. The people made this beautiful country even more beautiful.
I would like to specifically point out the high level of professionalism in Nkuringo's communication and management. Not a single detail was overlooked. We booked with them directly, and since the very outset, Moreen (who managed the overall itinerary), was communicative, responsive, and catered patiently to our safari goals. She helped us put together the perfect itinerary, which covered the shoebill storks in Mabamba, the chimpanzees in Kibale, and finally the unforgettable gorilla habituation experience in the Bwindi Impenetrable forest.
I would like to note that Moreen worked with us to help fit the itinerary into our budget (mid-tier), without ever trying to upsell, and advising us to allocate our money to the right areas, while helping us cut down costs in others. Despite our goals being more toward the experiences and wildlife rather than luxury accommodation, she was able to help us select the right lodges - a step below the absolute premium - which were nonetheless excellent. I would like to particularly highlight Papyrus Guest House, Isunga Lodge, and the Acacia Wilderness Lodge for above and beyond service.
I would like to express gratitude in particular for the incredible experience provided by our guide-driver, Oscar Frank. Oscar was the foundation of our once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the first moment, we felt that we could trust him to handle the logistics and practicalities of the entire trip. He is immensely knowledgeable about the culture, the wildlife, and the history of Uganda. Oscar is a consummate professional - communicating to us with patience and an authenticity which resonated with us deeply. He kept the safari vehicle meticulously clean and comfortable. He was a safe and reliable driver, and we felt at ease and confident in his capabilities to guide us through the unfamiliar and occasionally challenging terrain. I would highly recommend asking for Oscar as your guide specifically, if he is available during a visit. The next time we visit, we will surely want to be guided again by Oscar.
A side note: given the backdrop of the Ebola cases in Uganda, we were apprehensive about the trip as the dates grew closer. I must say that the situation on the ground is completely unaffected, and most coverage in Western media seems sensationalised. Bucketing the DRC and Uganda situations together seems quite unfair given the fact that the cases in Uganda have been highly monitored and controlled. We saw firsthand the negative impact of this media framing on the tourism sector in Uganda, which is the lifeblood of many rural communities. I believe the country is close to declaring the outbreak over as of today anyway, but I wanted to share my own experience that the ground-level situation is unaffected, and operations are running completely smoothly everywhere.
Some broader recommendations: We would recommend lion tracking in Queen Elizabeth, the Batwa experience and a visit to the Batwa Indigenous Empowerment Organisation in Rushaga, and the Bigodi community walk as add-ons well worth the price.
