点评：Willi was an amazingly skilful and entertaining guide. He was great with our almost 12 year old. We always felt completely safe in his self-built waka and were well fed too. The bush is stunning - some of the least logged (if at all) in NZ. I loved seeing the tall podocarps covered in epiphytes and hanging lichen, and the cliffs covered in kiekie and a bajillion fern and moss species.
The native bird life is good, too - kārearea, kotare, whio, pukeko, ruru, pīwakawaka, tuī. Willi had lots of stories and we were also often quiet, just watching the beauty go by. He's been guiding for about 30 years and usefully knows everyone on the river, which came in handy when we left a bag on the river bank. I'd love to be back there right now.
