点评：Built around 1632 by the Catholic Giffard family as a secluded timber-framed hunting lodge and safe house, Boscobel entered the history books in 1651 following the Battle of Worcester. A fleeing King Charles II sought refuge here from Cromwell’s Parliamentarian soldiers, taking cover inside the house and sleeping in a cramped, hidden priest hole to evade capture.
Stepping inside and looking down into those tiny priest holes really brings the drama of his escape to life. Outside, you can explore the beautifully recreated 17th-century knot garden, stroll around the historic working farmyard, and enjoy a brew in the tearoom set within the old Victorian barns.
The staff and English Heritage volunteers are wonderfully welcoming and full of fascinating details about the King's journey. Absolutely well worth a visit!
