点评:Having flown the 737-800 using both the FSX and X-Plane flight simulators on my PC with heavy (lazy) reliance on the autopilot especially for Navigating & ILS approaches/landing, this was taking those experiences to yet another level where, at the Peterborough 737-800 simulator, Dave the absolutely patient and expert instructor, taught me the finer points of flying / navigating a real aircraft using the Flight Director and without any autopilot to help. Quite a different set of skills required there for sure. However, we did not crash and managed a TO from EGKK to overfly London and ILS land at EGLL 27R, before being transported to KSFO RW01 for a hands-on unassisted TO & low level flight around Alcatraz and UNDER the Golden Gate Bridge at 100ft to then land back at SFO. Finally, to finish off my full hour at the controls and for fun Dave set me up at 5 miles to go for a seat-of-the-pants successful landing using the red/green runway lights as guides on the 7,500 ft runway at St Marteen where the beach at the end of the runway is not a safe place to sunbathe (at least not when I am landing a 737 it's not.) With 6 of my family (including my 10 y/o grandson) in the back enjoying the ride and scenery, this was an amazing experience for them too; something we will certainly do again as a family. As for me... because of my experience as an engineer with the Phantom F4 at the OCU at RAF Coningsby, the Phantom F4 simulator is next when I have enough saved up from my pension.
