点评:Located only 0.6 mi/1 km outside the town of Banff, the Fenland Trail is a 1.3 mi/2.1 km loop with little, if any, elevation gain. My wife and I hiked this trail on a chilly afternoon in mid-October 2023.
The parking lot for the trail can be found off Mount Norquay Road, close to the Trans-Canada Highway. There are vault toilets next to the parking area. Along the trail you will encounter old-growth spruce trees, interpretive signs, wooden bridges and creek-side paths. Despite its proximity to the town of Banff, our trek was surprisingly quiet, peaceful and relaxing.
NOTE that although the trail is close to the Vermillion Lakes, there are no views of the lakes from the trail. Still, the Fenland Trail should be part of most Banff itineraries, especially for non-hikers and families who are interested in a tranquil walk in the woods.
