点评:First off, Valle Vidal is a 100+ acre preserve in Northern New Mexico. It is accessed either from Cimarron or Costilla New Mexico. We went from the Cimarron access.
The whole road encompasses more than just Valle Vidal. It includes a tour through Ted Turner's land on the east side and some private land on the west side. Between is just 'drop dead gorgeous'!
We took the drive during the week and saw very few people. Since it's a Forest Service road, I was worried that it might be a bit rough. It wasn't. The entire road is a nice gravel road with few worn areas. And the drive - just spectacular. The main things we remembered are the wide open valleys of huge meadows ringed by conifer and aspen trees. What an expanse. And the Shurree Ponds are really quite enchanting. But . . . as we topped the Rock Wall, we missed the overlook to the east. It came and left so fast, we didn't realize that it was an overlook. But there's another a little while on.
Several campgrounds. Were both nice. And Commanche Creek winds with the road. Fun to watch. Alas, not much wildlife. (largest elk herd in New Mexico resides nearby).
The trip took about three hours. WE could have spent lots more time if we had gotten out and hiked a bit. Next time.
The trip is well worthwhile.
