Historic train station with modern conveniences and efficiency

点评：Antwerpen Centraal received a significant upgrade and improvements since I was last there in 1994. The original building is notable for its decor and ornamentation in what one might call 'style Leopold II.' However, a modern station has been constructed on many levels under the original steel-and-glass shed over the tracks. Trains are one four levels, and it is fascinating to watch them arrive and depart on the different levels.
There are many modern conveniences in the station: modern, clean restrooms (for a nominal fee), many good restaurants to grab a quick bite to eat, and a news agent for books, magazines, and snacks. Lockers are also available; they are tucked in obscure places so you will have to look for the signs. There is good signage everywhere. The Belgian railway ticket machines are easy to use (you can change the language), but in my experience they only take card payments - no cash. There is a ticket office for the railway, and also machines for DeLijn, which is the local public transit system.
