点评:One of a series of attractive hilltop villages (along with Groznjan and Zavrsje) overlooking the Mirna valley on the opposite side to Motovun and all close to the route of the Parenzana - the narrow-gauge railway that ran from the early 1900s to the mid-30s, from Porec all the way to Trieste. Oprtalj like the others has had mixed fortunes over the centuries but still has a population of 80, a small primary school, several churches with fine frescoes, a loggia, some artists’ shops and a restaurant and cafe with lots of outdoor seating under mature chestnut trees overlooking the valley, as well as vineyards and olive groves all around. Well worth visiting and there’s lots of information about the village on prominent information boards (in English as well as other languages) - though if you’re heading for the village from the Parenzana on foot or by bike, be aware it’s a 2-mile steady ascent up a stony track, under trees…!
