点评:A very large Giant Tortoise sanctuary and breeding centre that does amazing work in ensuring these populations of tortoise bounce back rather than go in to decline. It’s free to enter so please make sure you donate anything you can so they can continue their crucial work.
Roughly half-way round the sanctuary they have the area with all the babies / young that are protected even more in certain enclosures to ensure they get to a decent size without predation before they are released.
It was very sad to hear that the year before our visit there was a very bad rainy season causing the fresh water basin at the top of the mountain to overflow and flood through the centre wiping out all of the nests. This means that every little tortoise that hatches this year and every year after is even more important.
Please watch your step as you walk around, the tortoises can easily look like rocks and boulders so if you’re not looking in front of you then you risk kicking them. They are super close as you’re walking next to them most of them time but there are fenced off areas as well so you can view them entering water pools and relaxing.
