点评:While on a G Adventures tour, we asked our guide to arrange for a visit to one of the local fair trade cooperatives. Since we had limited time during the our time in the area, he arranged for the store to be opened in the evening.
We made our way down an extremely dark, dirt road filled with potholes. We weren’t sure if our minibus would make it.
The social enterprise was created to provide opportunities to the various tribes that were relocated from Ranthambore National Park when it was formed. One of their income sources was the poaching of tigers. Dhonk Craft provides education, training, micro loans and a spot to sell their crafts.
Upon arrival we were met by the founder, a couple of staff members, her son and a very friendly Labrador (in a fenced in yard).
The founder apologized that we were not able to view any of the women at work since it was after closing time, but she provided a tour of the facility.
The shop itself was full of a variety of merchandise created by the members of the enterprise in a variety of price points.
It is well worth a visit. I only wish that I had had more time to browse. And I hate shopping.
