The Vizhinjam Lighthouse is conveniently located very close to Kovalam Beach and is easily accessible by road. You'll find parking spaces within its premises.
Upon arrival, you'll need to purchase a parking ticket at the gate. Entry tickets are also required for both individuals and any cameras you bring (though phone cameras are not charged). A staff member at the lighthouse entrance will check your tickets.
Reaching the Top
Visitors have two options to reach the top of the lighthouse: you can climb all 140 steps via the narrow spiral staircase, or you can take a small elevator (fits 2/3 ppl) that almost takes you up. I say "almost" because there are still a few steep steps to climb, followed by a metal ladder to reach the very top. If you're faint of heart, this final ascent might not be for you. The stairwell can be narrow, requiring you to squeeze past others coming from the opposite direction. While climbing the metal ladder is quite easy, exercise extra caution when descending, as some children might find it a bit scary.
The View from Above
The breathtaking 360-degree view from the top is absolutely worth the climb! You'll be treated to panoramic view of the sea, the beaches, surrounding buildings, and lush greenery. There's enough space for one person to stand close to the railing, with room for others to pass by. Be aware that the wind can be quite strong at the top.
When returning, staff at the top will direct the flow of people up and down the ladder, so expect a slight delay at this point. This controlled approach is, of course, for everyone's safety.

On the premises, you'll find a small cafe and a playground overlooking the sea, which I highly recommend. For the best experience, consider visiting during off-peak hours or the off-season to avoid crowds.
