Lovely Basilica in the Middle of Nowhere in Slovenia

点评：Who the heck would build a beautiful basilica on top of a mountain essentially in the middle of nowhere?
Apparently, the folks here did. The basilica sits on a small mountain (a trait suggested in its Slovenian name) that can be seen for miles around, including about a dozen miles away in Ptuj. The idea was to have something magnificent that everyone would see and be attracted to.
Take a look at a map, if you can. Our GPS took us up a steep, winding, single-track road, which provided amusement as we passed by the yard of a very territorial goose, who charged our car. As we left, we saw that there was a two-lane road going down the other side.
The basilica is magnificent. It is filled with baroque carvings and images. Note the relief image in the door of Saint Pope John-Paul II. The surrounding town is attractive and very typical of Slovenia.If you like this, there is a similar older church in Ptuj.
This basilica is not something you see every day, but it’s worth the trip.
