点评:The German National Museum in Nuremburg is located between Kornmarkt and Frauentormauer. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm daily with extended hours until 8.30pm on Wednesdays and closed on Mondays. Entry is €10 per adult and includes access to several temporary exhibitions in addition to the permanent collections which can easily take up several hours to explore at a leisurely pace. There is a basement level cafe along with locker usage if you want to store your coats and belongings during your visit.
Interestingly, Germanisches Nationalmuseum is the largest museum of cultural history in Germany. There are over 25,000 items on display covering a wide range of time periods and subject matters relating to Germany's history and heritage. There is a very helpful museum map available which greatly assists in planning your visit if time is limited. We found the permanent collection to be laid out well but given the scale of things to see, the map was quite useful in helping make our way through the entire museum.
There are many interesting things to see throughout, known more so than Martin Behaim's Globe, the oldest surviving globe in the world dating to the late 15th century. The museum website provides useful information on the collections of items that are on display. This can be a resourceful tool to use if wanting to think about what to target seeing prior to your visit.
Overall, we really enjoyed Germanisches Nationalmuseum and will gladly revisit the next time we are in Nuremburg.
