点评：Qeqertarsuaq is a port and town in the Qeqertalik municipality, located on the south coast of Disko Island on the west coast of Greenland. It is home to a campus of the University of Copenhagen known as Arctic Station. On August 13, 2025, Quark Expeditions brought its polar ship, the “Ultramarine,” to Qeqertarsuaq (69O 14.9’N, 053O 32.5’ W) on the third day of an eight-day expedition called “West Greenland Ice Odyssey: Glaciers and Icebergs”.
Using Zodiacs, we disembarked the Ultramarine and visited the community, starting at the Qeqertarsuaq Museum. We also toured the community, visiting a local breeder of sled dogs indigenous to Greenland. We learned that evidence suggests that people lived here as many as 6,000 years ago, that the town and surrounding area stand apart as the island’s only volcanic region, and that more than half of Greenland’s plant species are found here.
During our expedition to Disko Island we saw common eider, red-throated loon, common loon, great cormorant, arctic skua, black-legged kittiwake, great- and lesser-black backed gull, Glaucous and Icelandic gull, arctic tern, raven, northern wheatear, common redpoll, snow bunting, and humpback whales.
