点评:Resting at the bottom of the Red Canyon is the Fairy Stream. Famous for its red sand and barefoot river walk, it is often referred to as Vietnam's Grand Canyon in miniature.
The entrance to the Fairy Stream is to the north of the main road leading into Mui Ne. At the entrance there is a small restaurant where you can enjoy Vietnamese coffee and local food while watching the river below. It cost 5,000 dong to enter in 2024, and you can leave your shoes at the entrance.
I recommend walking the river barefoot. The sand is soft, and the water is warm, so it is comfortable to walk down. Bring a towel so you can dry yourself off afterwards!
Trees, grass and other plant life line the stream, glowing a bright green under the sun and contrasting orange-red river. There were a few places to take a rest, or for photo opportunities, including a swing beneath the canyon's walls.
The plant life eventually gives way to impressive limestone formations embedded in the red clay cliffs. These are impressive to see up close and above ground. There is a large cluster of stalagmites that look like small statues that have been weathered over the years.
Past the limestone formations, the flora returns, lining the canyon with leaves. A small restaurant is set up here, but it was closed and empty on the day I visited. Despite the cliffs being left behind, there are still signs of limestone, with small formations dotted around. One that stood out to me had a strange colour and looked more like a termite's nest.
At the end of the canyon, there is a small waterfall. This is the source of the Fairy Stream Don't get too close, I was warned by a local that you can get swept under if you do.
If you're spending time in Mui Ne, this is a must do. The short walk takes less than half an hour, but you can spend more time here if you want to take in the scenery.
