点评:This is one of the most gorgeous spas in history. Built in the 19th century in high Victorian style (over the top of ancient Roman baths that are worth a separate tour), I was as much awed by the architecture as the spa experience itself. Swimming under the central feels like swimming in a cathedral. One could see by the design that originally there were symmetrical wings, such that men and women would ascend the grand stairs and head opposite directions. But today a single-sex spa would struggle financially, as people don't like to be separated. Apparently for those not comfortable with mixed-gender spa in the nude, last year Friedrichsbad created two a days a week for those in bathing costumes. Most people come to the spa with someone, but possible to go solo. Staff inside were not especially warm/welcoming - don't look for smiles - but overall fine.
This is the only spa I have been in where there are numbered stations, so I dutifully followed them (although I ended up repeating a few steps). Occasionally in the warmest sauna room there was insufficient space (just four recliners and a chair), but one could rotate to other rooms, and did not have to remain in the exact order. I did not pay the extra 18 euro for the body scrub, but was tempted.
