点评:This visitor centre and cafe are now closed so in their absence here's a review of tourist things to do in CAERPHILLY instead! An interesting town for a visit despite being a bit run down (like a lot of Welsh towns these days). Dominated by the castle and grounds, and with country walks nearby and a shopping area still with some independent shops, we enjoyed this as a stop off on our way to west Wales. The castle is worth a visit despite a lot of closed bits due to restoration work going on, and you can't fail to visit Tommy Cooper as his giant statue is in the centre of town, just like that! Apparently he was born there (but a passing local told us he didn't stay very long!) We had lunch in the Court House pub, which was in a great spot, but miserable; and evening meal in the Consurio Lounge which was much better atmosphere, good value with proper friendly waiters and speedy service. On Saturday morning there was an indoor market and would recommend the slab cake made by the gentleman who sold eggs inside - the best Bara Brith (other cakes available!). However, we tried VERY hard, but absolutely NOBODY sold Caerphilly Cheese in Caerphilly!
