点评:We walked to the Acropolis from the Cruise Port – with a decent map, we walked through the Old City past the Palace, then through the St Antonio gate to the streets behind the Palace, then up the hill to the Acropolis. It was about a 2mi walk from the Cruise port.
The Acropolis itself is transitioning to a more tourist friendly area. The good news is it has better signage and more manicured paths. The bad news is the reconstruction work includes fencing in the main areas, with ticket booths at the entrance points. By early 2025 this site will have an entrance fee. It is still a very nice area of Greek ruins worth a visit (stadium, theater, temple ruins, agora). It was hard for me to tell where the Hop-on-Hop-off bus stopped (if that is more your style) for a visit to the ruins, but they still came up the hill to the area.
Nearby are the Nymphaea caves (not within the ruins fence). The caves are more like grottoes in most areas, and can be seen from above, but not entered due to closed safety gates. If you like this type of nature, it is worth a visit. They are spread over a couple of areas near each other, but it takes some searching to find them and they are not nearly as well marked.
The walled Old City is always vibrant with shops, cafes and restaurants worth stopping. The Castle (Palace of the Knights of Rhodes/Malta) in the walled city is also open for self-guided tours (pay to enter) but there is an area inside the gate that is free and open to walk around during operating hours.
The garden/dry moat area between the outer walls of the Old City is also worth a walk around.
You can pick up a map of Rhodes at an either information office just inside the main gates of the City Wall (inside the Arnauld Gate and outside the St Catherine's Gate). This map is essential to getting your bearing throughout the city walls, and can help get you through the city more easily if you want to walk to the Acropolis.
