A wonderful church , a National Heritage site
Holy Church of Saint Demetrius, Patron Saint of Thessalonica的点评
点评：The subterranean area is well worth a visit, there is a well there where the body of St Demetrious was thrown. It is reputed that a strong scent of myrhh afterwards emanated from the well. The water from the well has been diverted to the upper part of the church, where tourists can fill bottles of water which is said to have healing properties. I enclose a photo of this water source, which is found in the church. I visited again this year and I still find it inspiring. However I was disappointed at the attitude of a priest, he informed me that it was not permitted to sit with your legs crossed in the church although I saw innumerable other visitors doing so. The staff at the souvenir shop are also rude to visitors who they regard as non Greeks. I was quite taken aback by the hostility so I have downgraded my rating.
