点评:The Mycenae site includes Archaeological Museum of Ancient Mycenae and Lion Gate. It’s best to research these sites before arriving. The Treasury of Atreus is aka Tomb of Agamemnon, was constructed circa 1300BCE. It is the most elaborate and largest tholos [beehive] tomb known to have been constructed in the Aegean Bronze Age. The tomb was first excavated in the 1800s.
The Citadel Walls include Grave Circle A and Lion Gate, the famed corbel entrance to Acropolis. Much like Inca stone walls, the Citadel’s walls are closely fitted and had no mortar binding them. Gravity holds them in place. That the Lion Gate lintel has withstood earthquakes since 1300BCE is a testimony to ancient Greeks.
Little remains of the city often referred to as the Cradle of Civilization: art, literature and philosophy. Please research these sites before arriving. I was flooded by information by the wonderful tour guide, vivacious Vivian. Had I researched the site aforehand, I would have known the importance of these magnificent structures and their remains. In a few years, I will retrace my steps. I could easily enjoy a month in Greece and not see half the country has to offer.
