点评:The 15th century palace and 10th century castle are in the same complex that you enter with a single ticket (although we didn’t know that until we got there). The palace was beautiful, but it had been heavily restored in recent years, so nothing in there was original. There were multiple student groups touring the complex, so we were always trying to stay a few steps ahead of them. When they got to a room before us, they blocked the whole thing up for an inordinate amount of time while their teacher gave them a long history lesson – very annoying! It was interesting but not one of the most beautiful (and certainly not one of the more authentic) palaces we’ve seen. Between the palace and the castle was a very unimpressive and stripped-down stone church, the Church of São Miguel do Castelo. But the castle was amazing. Really just the exterior walls and a couple of undecorated rooms, but the stone walls and towers, which we could walk around, were gorgeous. There were huge boulders that the castle was built around and on top of, which made it feel like part of the landscape. Definitely the highlight of the city (and recognized as one of the “Seven Wonders of Portugal”, a major cultural and historic monument).
