点评:Stuttgart is no Berlin or Munich. Nor is it Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, or Frankfurt. It is a German city easily overlooked by visitors and citizens alike. Yet it has one of the most impressive art museums I have seen in a long time.
From the outset, the museum seems slightly dated. It's clear it hasn't had any major renovations in at least a couple decades, but this changes once you move to the first exhibit upstairs. The exhibition rooms are no different than any top tier art museum; large, adorned, air conditioned, guarded, and connected. Emphasis on "connected", as this is one of the easiest museums I've had to navigate in some time. You effortlessly and logically move from one room the the next, one era of art to the next, one medium to the next.
And the Staatsgalerie is no slouch either. They carry some of the biggest names in the art world, and multiples to boot. Monet, Renoir, Picasso, Klee, Rubens, Rembrandt, etc...
I would gladly return the next time I'm in Stuttgart, a city deserving of as much attention as any other.
