点评:This is a spectacular medieval palace and worth a visit for the architecture and views and a chance to roam around inside this splendid building. The staff were friendly. On the other hand we did not find this very welcoming as a museum. There are lots of steep stairs and the information simply announces ‘stairs, no lift’, with no suggestion of what to do if you are less mobile and seemingly no attempt to make any part of the museum more accessible. The displays in each room had some interesting things but overall the collections displayed seemed a bit random, and the labels were not always very informative. The lighting was low - perhaps to avoid damage - but this also meant that the scant labelling was difficult to read. The famous collection of manuscripts was nowhere to be seen. An audio guide can be downloaded and listened to via a smart phone; again this may work well for some, but there is seemingly no attempt to make the visit more accessible if you are not using a smart phone. Overall it’s a magnificent building and well worth a visit, but as a museum it could definitely be made more welcoming and more informative.
