Beautiful island but avoid during school holidays (if you can).

点评：I want to review Rottnest Island.
TripAdvisor used to be set up for travellers to share their experiences but now seems to only allow reviews for predetermined places operated by commercial companies. This is not in the spirit of why I joined.
My initial impression of Rottnest Island was underwhelming - We got off a crowded ferry (albeit designed and organised for a high volume of tourists) to a crowded and at times chaotic place that does not have the infrastructure in place to deal with the sheer numbers of people allowed on the island during the school holidays.
There were people on bikes everywhere and I mean everywhere - there did not seem to be any purpose built bike paths to separate cyclists from road traffic and pedestrians.
The Quokka hop on/hop off bus tour company was very good, and the drivers shared lots of helpful information, but the buses were very crowded and it was difficult to get seats. They need many more buses during school holidays, as it is a 22km round trip on winding roads
We were very glad to get off the crowded bus to walk to the lighthouse and got see several quokkas on the short walk. The guides are all volunteers and were very friendly and knowledgeable about the lighthouse, its history, the island’s history and the lighthouses’ purpose during that time. The views from the top were spectacular and showed how beautiful the island was, giving us the courage to wait for the next crowded bus to see the rest of the beauty of the island.
We got to see spectacular scenery, meet other volunteers who shared the island’s history, and saw lots of quokkas, birds, dolphins and whales.
My tip - bring your own food ( the canteens and other food places were above capacity) and stay away from the touristy areas, especially if you can’t avoid visiting during school holidays.

我的建议是：自带食物（食堂及其他餐饮点都人满为患），并且尽量避开旅游区——尤其是在学校假期期间实在无法避免去旅游的话。
