点评:Having visited archaeological museums in many places in the Americas and Mediterranean countries, I would say the Museo Arqueológico Nacional is one of the best I have seen--both in terms of its collection and presentation. It is housed on three floors plus a mezzanine (which seems to be for thematic, temporary exhibits), and its dominate arrangement is chronological focused on the Iberian peninsula from the Stone Age to the beginnings of what it terms the "Modern Age" (dated from 1500). Several rooms with Egyptian and Greek artifacts deviate from that pattern. Also, outside the main entrance there is an underground exhibit that recreates the ceiling of one section of the famous cave of Altamira with its Paleolithic art. There is an excellent digital text/audio guide (in Spanish, French, and English) that provides interpretative material on more than 250 pieces, grouped into smaller programs on particular interests (topics and specific chronological periods). The "33 Essential" program is a great option for a first/single visit. Admission is free during Sunday's limited hours and for a part of Saturday afternoons. If you are interested in archaeology, plan for several hours or visits of a couple of hours over several days.
