点评:The Temple of Debod is one of the Nubian temples that was relocated in the 1960s when a section of the Nile became a reservoir with the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Among them are the Temples of Abu Simbel that were raised almost 200 feet in place to rescue them from the reservoir waters. Others, like the Temple of Debod, were disassembled and moved to other countries that had funded the rescue efforts.
The Temple of Debod went through several phases of construction beginning around 200 BCE, including a Roman phase that began in 30 BCE and has reliefs depicting Octavian Augustus Caesar presenting offerings to Egyptian gods. The full complex included the temple proper and three gateways, only two of which survived into the 20th century to be rescued.
To visit the inside of the temple and see its original reliefs, you must have a timed-entry ticket obtained online from the site's official website. The tickets are free, but you will want to get them in advance because most days all available slots are taken. There is very limited capacity within the small structure, so visits are limited to 30 minutes, but that will be adequate time.
Though not what I would consider a high priority stop for a limited stay in Madrid, if you are interested in classical era Egypt it is well worth a visit if your schedule permits.
