点评:We walked over from our hotel near Nyhavn on a sunny morning to see this architectural wonder/national library. It was awesome! And free to enter. There are two buildings. The older is the original Royal Danish Library built in 1906. The newer is known as The Black Diamond, opened in 1999, made of black granite. We started with the new building, 6 stories tall, offering grand views from the 6th floor! Check out the interior atrium at every level with walkways across and interesting design elements. Check out the canal traffic and the Circle Bridge by Olafur Eliasson. And the people! This library is busy from top to bottom! We walked over to the "old" library...exquisite to see the traditional library still there with some magnificent furnishings and designs in mosaic tile floors, sculptures, light fixtures, murals, tile bricks, and more. The Old Reading Room is a treasure! Don't miss the mezzanine exhibition of treasures from the library, including a Gutenburg Bible, "modern" architectural renderings from the 1930s, Hans Christian Andersen papers, and more. We enjoyed coffee and pastries at the cafe.
