点评：Every European city centre has its pedestrianized shopping street, and in Vienna, it is the area around Graben, Kohlmarkt and Karntner Street. Together, these form Vienna's U-shape pedestrianized shopping streets with many upscale stores, international fashion labels stores, souvenirs shops and restaurants. To many, it is a shoppers' paradise, which truly belies the area's rich history. The Graben is technically a huge rectangular square that began life as a moat during Roman times, while the Kohlmarkt was a coal market during the medieval times before evolving into a high-end luxury shopping street. Walking along both the Graben and Kohlmarkt is a delightful experience. You will find beautiful fountains and attractive buildings from a mix of Baroque, Art Nouveau and Modernist architectural styles, and even stumble upon a column (Pestsaule) built to commemorate the Great Plague of Vienna. And of course, you will also be feasted with the grandeur of the Hofburg Palace at the end of Kohlmarkt. During the Christmas season, the entire place transforms into an urban wonderland and the festive magic comes to live with the sprightly Christmas lights stretching overhead like luminous canopies.
