I attended Gandeys Circus opening night at Merry Hill (6:30pm show) with my family, and what should have been a magical night turned into a deeply upsetting experience.
We had booked 11 front-row premium seats in July, paying extra to choose our seats so our disabled adults, children, and foster children could sit together. We’d looked forward to it for months, especially the children who were beyond excited.
When we arrived, we immediately noticed that the row was three seats too short — the seats we had paid for didn’t exist. Staff told us we’d need to split up, which we reluctantly agreed to as the children were already inside and excited. We were promised a refund for three seats and were escorted to the ticket office for help.
Then things got worse — another family were already sitting in our exact seats, with identical seat numbers. Gandeys had sold our front-row seats twice. We had booked in July, and the other group had booked the same seats in September, both with valid tickets.
The staff offered to move us to the back rows, but that was completely unacceptable after paying extra for front-row premium seating. The situation was chaotic and very poorly managed. We eventually had to take seven heartbroken children home without seeing the show.
This was meant to be a special evening — I am in remission from cancer, and I wanted to do something joyful for my family after a difficult few years. Instead, it became distressing and disappointing beyond words.
Although a refund was later issued, the experience and emotional impact cannot be undone. Gandeys need to take serious responsibility for their booking system and customer care.
Please be cautious before paying extra for premium or reserved seats — as our experience shows, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually receive what you’ve paid for.
A night we’ll sadly never forget for all the wrong reasons.
