Challenging Hike worth all the effort!
Magic Mountain Overlook的点评
点评：We parked the car at their small parking lot (if full, I doubt) just parked next door at the school lot/adjacent to Fare Tutava) paid the 100XPF per person, cash only, "hike fee" and started the our journey up the road.
You pass 3 houses and then it's just nature, with couple stops here and there in a shade where even nice benches are located - definitely lots of calories burnt here that day!
Although the bottom part of the path is one road only, it does split after a while - no worries both paths will take you to the top as they meet again towards the top "flatter parking area" where all excursion/tours stop as well. If you want a lighter version of this trail stay all the time on your left when going up, so when at the fork take the left as it's a bit longer but definitely less steep hike - that's the one that cars also take - we missed that piece of info and took the right path and it's definitely a challenging one - all paved pretty much but very steep - and what you can do is simply take one way up and other way down for a variety - like we did and we loved it, I was glad we made the original "mistake" :)
Once at the top there is a final small stretch that is even steeper and then you are on the platform - all exposed to the sun so manage water/sunscreen wisely as you will definitely be drenched by the time you arrive at the top. Most of the hike is some kind of shade opportunity but while at the top nothing to screen yourself with.
One of the coolest things to do in Moorea! Liked it more than the "easy" Belvedere Lookout stop - perhaps because of personal satisfaction on the effort part, or perhaps because it's nowhere as crowded as the Belvedere one is due to how easy it is to get to vista point... or perhaps because the corny name "magic mountain" actually provides even nicer views but that's a personal preference.
It takes about 30-45m up, with some breaks as it was hot and difficult :) the easier way down was about 30m or so and much easier - both have the benches with some views on the way to the top.
On the bottom you can get some souvenirs or food/shakes/smoothies and there is another business providing food and excellent ice cream next door called Fare Tutava (reviewed separately) where we ended up twice :)
