点评:We attended as a couple to watch an evening performance of ‘The Bowie Experience’ tribute band as part of a birthday gift for my partner.
The price was very reasonable (£33 each) compared to other tickets we’ve paid for elsewhere. This included a printable .pdf version of the tickets, which came with the confirmation email as well as eTickets that we downloaded into of mobile phone’s wallet. This was a very nice touch, thank you.
We arrived early around 16:55 and parking was clearly marked with plenty of space. Being able to buy an evening ticket for £3.50 effective from 15:00 was very much appreciated. At the time of writing there were no issues with the company who manage the car park, which is frequently referred to by other reviewers.
The venue was busy with lots of different activities taking place, which were listed at the bar and it was nice to see the venue being used by lots of community groups.
Most of the tables in the restaurant were marked as reserved, with names on each table. If you’re intending to eat here, which we did, maybe consider making a reservation in advance, as this was something we overlooked. The bar staff were very attentive, served us quickly and indicated to where most of the unreserved tables could be found, thank you.
The menu is not extensive but that’s ok and the food arrived in a timely manner. The prices are reasonable, as are the drinks, including low and no alcohol options.
The volunteers who showed us to our seats, were happy to answer our questions and are a credit to the theatre. Their recommendations as to previous shows and the AMP events encouraged us to book a return visit for a future show.
At least one member of staff / volunteer wore a small badge which included a small rainbow, which was very much appreciated, as inclusivity is important to us, thank you.
Two minor points were that due to a nearby factory, their drains give off a distinctive odour which meant that we decided to sit inside instead of on the balcony. We accept that the theatre has no control over this and once inside the auditorium there was no smell at all.
The venue recognises that air-con inside the theatre itself would help and they have future plans to address this, as the heat can become issue. Maybe consider taking a fan if the weather is expected to be warm, or use a program as an improvised fan.
At the beginning of the show, signs were placed out informing us to switch off our devices and that photographs and dancing was not permitted, which is not uncommon. However the band didn’t seem aware of this, as the first thing they encouraged the audience to do was, take and share photographs and videos and y’guessed it, to get up and dance, which was great fun, albeit possibly against the rules.
There are clearly marked toilets for men and women. Whilst the accessible aka disabled toilets are also marked as ‘inclusive.’ I’m advised that this is intended to indicate ‘gender neutral’ facilities as a choice / option, and not as a ‘requirement’ for trans customers.
In short, we had a great experience at the venue and thoroughly enjoyed the show, raising the obvious question, would we return to see more shows here?
Yes, we would and we have already booked to see a show for later in the year. Well done to everyone and we look forward to seeing you all again
