点评:As you come down the long slope from The Hoe, you can see West Hoe park on the right. It’s a large field, facing the sea with a perimeter of trees on the land side.
There’s a coffee shop in the park and another one alongside it. Some public toilets, which unfortunately don’t take card (they need a 50p piece). Picnic tables and deckchairs to sit.
There are a bouncy castle and a couple of kids rides in the centre, most notably the vintage Gus Honeybush Trains which you can ride round a small track on. These were great value and the young man running them took real pride in his work, which was so nice to see.
Treasure island is in the corner of the park, a fenced enclosure consisting of some more amusements (golf, panning for gold etc), another coffee place and kid friendly rides. We stopped for a go on these too; it was all very well maintained and landscaped, the tokens weren’t expensive.
There’s not much in the way of play equipment, just a couple of logs in one corner, but that doesn’t actually matter, because the far corner of the park by Treasure Island connects to Pier St Park with a good playground that has lots to do (swings, roundabouts and so on). We never found the pirate ship or secret garden mentioned and pictured in other reviews. Looking back on Google earth, I can’t even see them on the aerial view, so perhaps those are gone (May 2024).
The Hoe is all well and good with its worthy monuments, but once you’ve dragged the kids round those, this is a great reward for their patience.
